Reading is the most fundamental building block a student must possess. The ability to read fluently and with comprehension is crucial to a successful academic future. Our program is developed to teach students how to concentrate and focus effectively. These skills are critical in increasing both reading comprehension and speed. The skills they learn will enable them to retain and integrate the newly acquired information, apply appropriate strategies to different kinds of texts and have confidence in their abilities. Our reading curriculum includes:
- Phonics and Decoding: Skills needed to make sense of and interpret new or unfamiliar words.
- Vocabulary: Expanding the student’s vocabulary through use of synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, and root words.
- Comprehension: Build the student’s ability and skill to grasp the meaning, nature, importance of and understanding of the text they are reading.
- Spelling: A combination of a phonics-first and structural principles approach is applied in spelling. The ability to sound out letters in words and apply this knowledge in writing is used.
